ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - For months, residents who live on and around Sontag Road have been dealing with an unsafe sewage system. Now, St. Louis County has issued an order to vacate. Residents have days before officials will take more action. The unmaintained sewage system is a major concern, as it sits next to many residents and several local waterways. Last week, nothing was blocking the big hole of raw sewage. A concern residents have, especially with children in the neighborhood. On Friday, nearly a week after FOX 2 first reported the problem, stakes and lots of yellow tapes surrounded the eight-by-eight hole.David Wrone, the public information manager for the St. Louis County Public Works Department, said they were shocked to see what the site looked like just days ago.“Anytime you’ve got open air and human waste on-site…. That is obviously about as serious as you can get," Wrone said. It’s a realization the Public Properties Division said they discovered days ago. However, accord...Youth program extends hours ahead of busy weekend downtown

ST. LOUIS - As summer begins to pick up, crime is not far behind. This past weekend, 11 teens were shot in downtown St. Louis near Washington Avenue and 14th St., killing one. The shooting happened early morning, prompting a quick reaction from the city to extend weekend youth program hours. "Talk to any mayors across the country; one of the things is that reducing crime is the investment that they are making in their young people," said St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones. "I don't know if St. Louis has ever made a robust investment in our young people to give them activities and fun to keep them off the streets." Friday and Saturday program hours at the Wohl and Marquette recreation centers are being extended from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for kids 15 and under and 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. for teens 16 and up. The changes will last through August. D.C. resident Lee Mayer is adamant that putting bike lanes on each side of Connecticut Avenue NW in D.C.’s Ward 3 will be disastrous for businesses in the Northwest neighborhoods of Woodley Park and Chevy Chase. In an effort to head off the current project, he and members of the group “Save Connecticut Avenue” met with Ward 3 Council member Matthew Frumin on Thursday afternoon.Mayer said his group includes businesspeople and residents who oppose the proposed bike lanes. He told WTOP that he left the meeting dissatisfied, accusing Frumin of “repeating the tired and disproven marketing slogans of the bike advocates.”Frumin’s office said in an email to WTOP that Connecticut Avenue “needs to be safer, greener and more accessible for all road users.”Frumin’s statement said that he’s “committed to a design that incorporates protected bike lanes and pedestrian safety improvements, while also addressing concerns of small businesses.”On the issue of safety, Mayer said the D.C. HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo (KDVR) -- Cleanup efforts continued in Highlands Ranch after a tornado ripped through the city Thursday afternoon. Seth Carr said the storm uprooted his family's backyard tree onto their roof. “The branches were leaning on the house. The trunk wasn’t quite there yet,” Carr said. “The roots were pulling the ground up and it was just a frightening situation.” Sam Farkas with N&D Tree & Crane Services helped remove the tree from Carr’s home. “That was just our first job this morning,” Farkas said. “The precipitation in combination with that EF1 was really the perfect storm to get a lot of damage in a short amount of time.” Highlands Ranch tornado’s path unpredictable Farkas said the recent rainfall played a role in the number of trees uprooted. "Once you get this amount of precipitation it’s under mining that root system and a lot of things are swelling. You’re getting a lot more sediment loss and so when you get high winds and that’s combined with...Latest news
