If you are looking to improve your nutrition, you may want to start with your snacking habits. While snacks have the potential to improve nutrient intake and boost energy levels between meals, in reality snack choices often fall short of these goals. Before jumping on the latest diet craze, consider how your snacks may be derailing your healthy eating plans.Researchers looked at the diets of over 20,000 Americans and found that, on average, people consumed an additional 400 to 500 calories per day in snacks. Snacks contributed to about a meal’s worth of calories, or about 22% of daily calories, while providing little nutritional value. Gophers special teams coordinator Rob Wenger will leave his post at the U, a source confirmed to the Pioneer Press on Tuesday.Football Scoop, which first reported the news, said Wenger “stepped down” from the position he held at Minnesota under head coach P.J. Authorities are investigating an inmate’s death at the Washington County Jail in Stillwater.Justice Heinrichs (Courtesy of Destine Fobbs)Justice Heinrichs, 21, of Stillwater, was found unresponsive and not breathing in her assigned, double-occupancy cell at about 12:40 a.m. Friday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. She was the only inmate assigned to the cell, authorities said.Lifesaving measures were immediately initiated by jail staff until responders from the Lakeview EMS and Stillwater Fire Department took over, said Laura Perkins, a spokeswoman for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.Heinrich was brought to to the Washington County Jail on Dec. 20 from the St. Paul Police Department, according to her booking report. HUDSON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- El-Shamar T. Thornton, 30, of Hudson, appeared in the City of Hudson Court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing. According to the Hudson Police, Thornton reportedly broke into a residence at the Hudson Terrace Apartments on Christmas Eve. Thornton is also accused of knocking on nearby apartment windows while only wearing underwear.The resident of the apartment told police that Thornton forcibly broke in and took her cell phone. Upon leaving, Thornton allegedly disrobed in the hallway. Thornton was taken to the Columbia Memorial Health Hospital for medical treatment. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Black Jack woman is accused of shooting her boyfriend on New Year's Day following an argument and fight.According to Sgt. Tracy Panus, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis County Police Department, the shooting happened just after 4:20 p.m. Monday in the 4500 block of Whisper Lake Drive.The accused shooter, identified as Irasema Scott, 46, and the victim had been dating for three months, Panus said.Police claim Scott, the victim, and the victim's ex-girlfriend had gone to Lake of the Ozarks and returned on New Year's Day.After returning to the apartment, Scott and the victim got into an argument about the way she drove and how the victim gave his ex-girlfriend a key to their apartment.
