San Francisco restaurant bans armed officers, police union responds

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A San Francisco restaurant is feuding with police on social media after the business implemented a policy that bans armed officers from entering. Reem's California announced the policy in an Instagram post on Friday, saying the reason is to have a "deep commitment to uplifting social and racial justice in our communities.""In a time of increased gun violence -- particularly impacting people of color, youth, and queer people -- we believe that maintaining a strict policy of prohibiting guns in our restaurant keeps us safer," Reem's wrote. The San Francisco Police Officer's Association, a union that represents officers, called out the restaurant on X, formerly known as Twitter. On Thursday, they said one of their officers was denied service last weekend because he was in uniform. Reem's said they don't refuse service to police officers in general – it's only when they are in uniform and armed. "We are not asking Reem’s or any business with a bigoted policy to se...

Vikings just wrapped up the preseason. Whose stock is up? And whose stock is down?

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 14:25:45 GMT

It’s pretty clear how Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell looks at the preseason. Though he sees some value in exhibition games, O’Connell would rather eat his hat than play his starters in a game that doesn’t count. That was on display when the Vikings hosted the Arizona Cardinals in the preseason finale Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Vikings had more than 40 players on the sideline without pads, including starting quarterback Kirk Cousins, receiver Justin Jefferson, pass rusher Danielle Hunter and safety Harrison Smith, among so many others. The lack of star power throughout the preseason games did give some young players on the roster a chance to shine. Here’s a look at whose stock is up and whose stock is down ahead of cutdown day this week.UpJaren Hall (quarterback): Though he’s buried behind Cousins and backup Nick Mullens on the depth chart, Hall still seems to have the inside track at making the 53-man roster. Minnesota United scratches out 1-1 draw with Seattle

Seattle Sounders center back Yeimar both hurt and helped Minnesota United on Sunday. He scored for both teams in a 1-1 draw at Allianz Field.Minnesota (8-8-8, 32 points) can find some satisfaction with the one point netted because the Loons trailed Seattle in the first half and have historically struggled against the Sounders.MNUFC’s all-time MLS record against Seattle is now 1-11-2, ending a streak of four straight defeats since July 2021. The Loons have a minus-18 goal differential since 2017, and the Sounders are the only Western Conference club the Loons have not beaten more than once.Seattle (10-9-8, 37 points) is currently winless in its past four MLS matches.Sunday’s first half boiled down to two headers; Seattle made the most of it, and Minnesota missed its best chance. In the 17th minute, Yeimar won a free header in the box between the Loons’ Michael Boxall and Micky Tapias, and it went past goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair for a 1-0 lead. It was Seattle’s only shot on targe...

Mike Murphy makes history as SF Giants Wall of Fame inductee

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 14:25:45 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO — There’s no better indication of Mike Murphy’s impact on the Giants organization than the guest list for his Wall of Fame induction.Fifty current and former Giants players, coaches and executives showed up to enshrine “Murph,” their clubhouse manager, at Oracle Park before the Giants’ game against Atlanta on Sunday afternoon. They represented just a handful of players Murphy worked with during his 65 years in the Giants clubhouses between Candlestick and Oracle Park. Will Clark, a fellow Wall of Famer, recalled his favorite Murphy quote in his ceremony speech: “I’ll be here when you get here, and I’ll be here when you’re gone.”It’s fitting that Murphy became a permanent part of the Oracle Park walls, because there’s no ballpark fixture like him. He’s a Giants lifer who started as a 16-year-old ball boy in 1958, the first year the Giants were in San Francisco after moving out west from N...
